In our Workshop in Berchtesgaden, we manufacture traditional Lederhosen and -jackets by using only finest deer-skin and chamois leather. The handmade Lederhosen are decorated with typical embroidery and are tailored exactly to the sizes of our clients -  It is in this workshop that Original Berchtesgadner style Lederhosen are made.

Manufacturing process of tailor-made Lederhosen

If you order a pair of Lederhose made by the Lederhosen maker, you can have them made to meet your wishes and requirements. Together with Engelbert, you can choose the kind of leather, the type of embroidery and the style you want to have. We use nothing but natural materials for our Lederhosen. The deer leather we make our Lederhosen undergo a traditional chamois tanning process, which makes the skin soft and comfortable to wear.  Leather tanning is a lengthy process and is done by using cod oil in large wooden tubs. Bark from logwood is used to give the leather color.    Finally, only the highest quality and most suitable leather skins for Lederhosen are selected.

It is the Lederhosen-maker himself, who takes the all the measurements and cuts out the pieces of leather. The Original Berchtesgadener Knee-long Lederhose with a bottom-seam, consists of 6 main parts and many smaller parts ( 27 to be exact). The areas of the Lederhose subject to the greatest stress from movement,  are reinforced with uncolored leather on the inside. Embroidery patterns are drawn on various parts of the Lederhose using a natural rubber solution (gummi arabicum). Knee-long Lederhosen are traditionally decorated with white relief-embroidery, whereas short Bavarian Lederhosen are typically decorated with the various shades of green or yellow flat-embroidery (the designs range from oak-leaves, ivy or wine-leaves to mountain goats and deer). Doing the embroidery takes about 10 to 20 hours, depending on the pattern the client chooses.   Once the embroidery is finished, the various parts of the Lederhosen are sewn together and given the finishing touches (button holes are sewn and buttons attached).

Finally, the Lederhosen maker trims the visible seams, rechecks the measurements and brushes out the finished masterpiece. Now the new owner can take his Lederhose with him and wear it with pride.

The Lederhose is a natural product:
